Failing Well

Failure and success…both are a part of life. I’ve experienced both and can say (with great certainty) that I found more value in failing. Winning, achieving and being recognized for a job well done is a considerable accomplishment. One that deserves to be celebrated, but all that really is seen is the shiny, refined result.

The grind and grit are done in the dark hours of the night, just before the sun rises. The stop and start, the erasing and rewriting. The realization that this bright idea or invention is not going to work… And the decision to scrap it all and start again.

There is tremendous value in failure, especially repeated failures. It creates a yearning in your soul, one that drives every cell in your body towards the end goal.

So, we forge on through the proverbial muck and mud, rain and wind. The little glimpses of sunshine warm us and allow us to continue on, unsure of when we will reach our destiny but more confident that we are much closer than before. Because with each new path, we use our past experiences and are able adapt to the potentially treacherous terrain, as our prior journey’s missteps have prepared us for the next.
